Dear Parent/Caregiver,
This letter is to inform you about a new illness in children that is associated with COVID-19. The CDC has named this illness Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children or MIS-C for short. Signs/symptoms of this illness can include:
- Exposure to someone who has had COVID-19 within four weeks prior to the onset of symptoms.
- Persistent fever over 102 degrees.
- Gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, etc.).
- Kawasaki disease-like features including irritated/red eyes, rash on body, swelling of hands and feet, swollen lymph nodes, and irritation/inflammation of the mouth, lips, and throat.
The CDC is continuing to learn more about his new disease and will provide updates on their website.
If your child is ill, and you feel like they may have this disease, please contact your primary care physician for further instructions.
KidsCare Home Health is continuing to use precautions with all patients including handwashing/sanitizing hands and cleaning/sanitizing therapy materials between patients. Patients with symptoms of any illness, or living in a home with someone who has symptoms of COVID-19, are not being seen for in-home visits. Screening questions are also used for all in-home visits. In addition to these measures, KidsCare Home Health is continuing to offer telemedicine visits when appropriate/requested.
