This month we were excited to interview Micki Roget, KidsCare’s Chief Operating Officer. Micki came to KidsCare Home Health in 2011 as a per diem speech pathologist. In 2013, she was promoted to Vice President of Clinical Operations to focus on regional expansion within the Texas market. As the Chief Operating Officer Micki continues to facilitate national expansion and diversification of clinical opportunities.
Prior to KidsCare Home Health, Micki held management, operations, and clinical positions in a variety of settings including education, pediatrics, private practice and adult long term care facilities. Her broad range of experience has brought a multi-faceted perspective to KidsCare’s strategic outlook which has been instrumental in the growth and success of both established and new markets.
Where did you grow-up and what is special about your hometown?
I grew up all over the country as my family moved frequently due to my father’s employment. I had moved nine times by the time I had started high school. My favorite location was Connecticut. I loved the four seasons and the ability to go to NYC within an hour by commuter train.
Where did you go to school for college?
I finished my undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona and my masters degree at the University of New Mexico.
Why did you decide to become a speech pathologist?
I enjoy the scientific aspect as well as the versatility it brings to being able to work in different settings.
How long have you been with KidsCare and what brought you to KidsCare?
I have been here approximately 8 years full-time. I originally came to do PRN work and to keep my pediatric skills as I was working in the geriatric population at the time.
What is your favorite part about your current position as Chief Operating Officer for KidsCare?
I enjoy managing the different departments that directly report to me. All departments need to be working together effectively in order to provide the highest quality and ethical standards that make up the components of KidsCare Home Health’s C.A.R.E mission. Commitment. Accountability. Results. Ethics.
How has your role changed since you’ve been at KidsCare?
I started as a PRN speech pathologist in 2011 and then came on full-time to be the Clinical Director of Fort Worth and to help the company expand into other Texas cities. From there my position has expanded into what it is today.
When you’re not at work, how do you like to spend your time?
I enjoy gardening and cooking as well as spending time with family and friends.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?
I have enjoyed helping KidsCare Home Health expand and be successful in multiple states, markets, and lines of business.
What is the best advice you’ve received for your career?
Be a lifelong learner and treat everyone with respect along the way!
What advice would you share with someone looking to become a SLP?
Listen to every patient and family’s story. Use your knowledge to facilitate the goals and individualize them for each child you treat.
What gets you most excited about KidsCare’s future?
I am excited to see where we will be in the coming future. We have expanded into five new locations in Texas and two states since I have been at KidsCare Home Health.
