This month we were excited to interview Erin Carter, M.S., CCC/SLP, Director of Clinical Compliance for KidsCare Home Health.
Where did you grow-up and what is special about your hometown?
Rural, southwestern Indiana. It is a very close-knit community and “neighbors” from near and far are always willing to help each other.
Where did you go to school for college?
Undergrad at Purdue University and Masters at LSU. I’m currently working toward my MBA through Grand Canyon University online.
Why did you decide to become a Speech Language Pathologist?
After my first year of college, I decided to become an SLP after encountering Early Intervention therapists coming into the preschool I was working for at the time.
What is your favorite part about your current position as Director of Clinical Compliance?
I enjoy the challenge of finding the simplest/most efficient way for clinicians and management to meet the demands of the industry.
How has your role changed since you’ve been at KidsCare?
I have gone from a PRN SLP in Waco, TX to lead SLP in Fort Worth; then from Clinical Manager in Colorado to Clinical Director of the Western Division. Finally, I have settled into my role as Director of Clinical Compliance!
When you’re not at work, how do you like to spend your time?
I stay busy with friends and family. We spend lots of time outdoors attending/playing sports, boating, camping, traveling, entertaining and cooking.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?
Finding a balance between a rewarding, busy career and spending valuable time maintaining a relationship with my nine year-old son.
What is the best advice you’ve received for your career?
Watching my parents work hard, sacrifice, re-group, and persevere throughout their jobs and transition to successful careers has been the most impactful “career advice” I’ve received.
What advice would you share with someone looking to advance their career in healthcare?
Know what you are good at; put those skills into motion in a meaningful and beneficial way, even if there isn’t a monetary value attached to the extra effort. It will get noticed!
What is your favorite memory in working at KidsCare Home Health?
My favorite memory, while it was a whirlwind, was the 2017-2018 opening of the Denver market with an AMAZING group of new clinicians to create a highly-successful expansion, while maintaining Cortney’s vision for the KCHH “family” in Colorado.
What is the best part of working at KidsCare?
