Through our Monthly Spotlight Series, we are taking the time to highlight the staff at KidsCare Home Health. We hope you gain inspiration and valuable advice from these successful individuals and their stories.
This month we were excited to interview Dustin Reeves, Director of Community Relations – South Texas at KidsCare Home Health.
Where did you grow-up and what is special about your hometown?
I grew up in a small town called Valley Mills outside of Waco. Valley Mills only has about 1,200 residents, but it couldn’t have been a more perfect place to grow up. In Valley Mills, baseball is life. Our high school team starts Tball together at 5 years old and plays together up until they all graduate high school. It’s fun to watch our scrappy country boys show up to urban tournaments with large schools and run the diamond.
What brought you to KidsCare?
When I first started marketing in Central Texas about 9 years ago, I actually worked for a competitor. Seeing KidsCare in the field always gave me that feeling of being a small kid on the sidelines watching the “big kids” play. I aspired to be at that level. Uniquely, my now supervisor, Jeanette Reinert, brought me onboard with KidsCare at a point in my life where I had decided to enroll in Nursing School. KidsCare gave my family stability while I was in school during that time.
What do the day-to-day responsibilities of your role as Director of Community Relations look like?
The role of the Director of Community Relations is to provide oversight and support to the Community Relations Coordinators. Every day is different and tailored to the needs of the employee we’re working with. Some days are spent in the field training a new CRC, and others may be spent behind a screen analyzing data to determine how shifting the focus for one CRC might benefit them in an established market.
What is your favorite part about your position as the Community Relations Director of South Texas?
My people. I didn’t realize how much of a sweet deal I was getting whenever I took this position. KidsCare hires and trains the very best sales professionals, but I’m very prideful whenever I brag about the CRCs on my team. They’re incredible, unique in their own ways, but all of them are committed to success. Wuddup South Texas!!!
When you’re not at work, how do you like to spend your time?
I’ll never be anything in this world that’s cooler than my role as Dad. I’ve got 2 sons Leevi (6) and Wylee (5mo), and then I’ve got a daughter that’s 4 named Jolee. When I’m not at work I’m taking them camping, hunting, fishing, or to T-ball. I also love to cook, be around our church community, and fight fires as a volunteer firefighter.
What do you think makes KidsCare Home Health different from other agencies?
KidsCare carries a special culture that other agencies do not. I speak with our team about this often, as I’ve experienced working for or very closely to competitors. KidsCare feels youthful, bright, energetic, caring, and encouraging. We’re not out there providing healthcare because it’s a good market to be in, we’re out there doing what we do because we love it. We truly CARE.
What is the best advice you’ve received for your career?
The key to success is your humility. When you’re in a season of success, humble yourself enough to help those around you and acknowledge their contribution. When you’re in a season of failure, humble yourself to your shortcomings, fix them, and rise to the occasion.
What is your favorite memory in working at KidsCare Home Health?
KidsCare and I went separate ways for about 5 years while I worked in the nursing profession. Whenever I was blessed with the opportunity to reunite with this amazing organization, I enjoyed walking the hallways of the new building seeing the exact same leadership team that was in place whenever I had started with KidsCare 7 years earlier.
What gets you most excited about KidsCare’s future?
I think what gets me most excited about KidsCare’s future is knowing its past! This isn’t the same company I worked for back then. This is the new and improved version! I cannot imagine how awesome we’ll be another 5 years down the road!
